Citizen Science in the Bay Area: Rebecca Johnson

MONDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2015, 7pm

“Citizen scientists” are ordinary people all over the world who are helping to conduct scientific research by doing such things as collecting soil samplesclassifying galaxies according to their shapes, and transcribing scanned images of letters written to Albert Einstein. Dr. Rebecca Johnson, a researcher and co-coordinator of citizen science at the California Academy of Sciences, will describe how the Academy is helping to enlist Bay Area residents as citizen scientists.  For example, San Franciscans are discovering and documenting the city’s biodiversity in their backyards, local parks, sidewalk gardens, and walks to school or work.

SHARP meets at 7 p.m. on the last Monday of the month in the ground floor meeting space of our building, 1736 Ninth Avenue (between Moraga and Noriega). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for cookies and conversation.
