The Golden Ages of Sicily

MONDAY, JANUARY 30, 2017, 7pm

In two golden periods a millennium and a half apart, Sicily led western civilization into the future. First as part of ancient Greece, then as part of the medieval Arabic-Norman empire, Sicily pioneered history, psychology, art, ethics, society, governance, and literature. A uniquely gifted guide will explore those eras with us. He is Douglas Kenning, a classical scholar and president of Sicily Tour, a company that offers tours of the island with an emphasis on its history and culture. Kenning’s richly illustrated talk captures the beauty and significance of a brilliant, important place.

Unless otherwise noted, SHARP meetings occur on the last Monday of the month, at 7 p.m., at our meeting space—the ground floor of 1736 Ninth Avenue (between Moraga and Noriega)
