Announcing Our Inner Sunset

After much ado behind the scenes, Our Inner Sunset is finally up. We hope you like it!

This new website, maintained by Inner Sunset Park Neighbors and friends, is intended to help catalyze the remarkable growth of activism we’ve seen in the Inner Sunset in recent years. Whether it’s been the farmers’ market, the Hidden Garden Steps, Inner Sunset Sundays, block parties, or another project, the total effect has caused many people to say how different the neighborhood feels nowadays. Actually, a neighbor sent me a Christmas card last year which read, “17 years in the neighborhood and I finally feel like I live in a community”. Isn’t that wonderful to hear?

Our Inner Sunset reflects ISPN’s philosophy (find out more about ISPN here) that it is up to us – not an organization, institution, or “expert” – to make a difference in the neighborhood. We best know the solutions and we are the only ones who can make it happen. Yes, organizations can provide help and tools but the real push must come from the community. In that spirit, ISPN is here to provide tools, infrastructure, and encouragement to enable you to make changes. One of those tools is this very website, where the spotlight is firmly on the growing number of people who are making a difference in the Inner Sunset.

inner-sunset-boardAn inspirational start to your Our Inner Sunset experience could be the Neighborhood Projects page where you’ll read the stories from some of those people. And once you’re done there, are you ready to get involved? The What you can do page provides some simple suggestions for getting going. Contact us if you can think of any more ideas. Those who make this website aren’t pros either; we’re community members just like you and we really appreciate your support.

And remember, not everybody has to be a leader. Those who support projects are critical – we couldn’t do it without you. So please keep attending the farmers’ market, Inner Sunset Sundays, local block parties, and so on. You are the lifeblood of this community.

There’s plenty of other features on this website but I’ll let you have a look around and find those features for yourself.

Thanks for reading and see you in the neighborhood!
